The Life Surreal

Found this paragraph on a message board for The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou at IMDb:

You remind me of some juvenile who is melodramatically traumatized by the fact that his parents took the car away from him, and so then decides to tell their story to the world like some Uber-Nelson Mandela. YOU THINK YOU SAW SOMETHING AND NOW YOU ARE CONVINCED THAT IT IS THERE.

It’s so delightfully nonsensical. It has no apparent bearing on its topic – that of possible gay themes in TLAwSZ. I think this is awesome. What is an Uber-Nelson Mandela? Is it anything like an Uber-Chassis? Because if so, I think I know who posted that comment.

I thought the movie was excellent. It walks that line between too bizarre and just bizarre enough. And as you walk the line too, you are accompanied by nice friends like: Portuguese covers of Bowie, Willem Dafoe, pretty fish, Bill Murray, Italy and red knitted caps.

Sven! Bork!

Completely by coincidence this morning, I found a blog called How to learn Swedish in 1000 Difficult Lessons.

Today our apartment had no hot water. Luckily, there are only four people in the office and they all have colds so they can’t smell me. As further evidence of “you only get as much as you can handle,” today also turns out to be the first day in a week that I am able to function as a human being without a 20 minute hot shower.

Praise be and pass the antibiotics.

Oh and oatmeal with Lindor chocolate balls in it is very good. Apparently if you add salted, dried fish to the mix you have breakfast in the Philipines.

If you have trouble playing Ogg files, this site for Windows monkeys and this one for mac monkeys may be helpful.

Spikre Paller and I’ll Cry if I Want To

Swedish titles for the rest of the week, I think.

As promised:

Is that some guy from “Yes” with the white hair?

And the back:

The Lyrics: (from a Brazilian site? because why not.)

Spikre paller, nå skar vi spikre paller
Spikre paller, JA, fine paller
Refr.

I Love Norwegian!

Today we went for a walk and ended up on Granville St. where there was no one at the Book Warehouse so I bought a half price Dr. Seuss calendar. Ended up at Charlie’s Used Music Shoppe which, in case you’re looking, now sells clothing for men by Mexx in some pretty startling colours. And those shiny shirts boys wore in the late ’90s.

Everything at Charlie’s was 25% off. I found some Ella Fitzgerald, some Mary J. Blige and then I found:

“Full Behandling” by Vazelina Bilopphoggers.

I will scan the artwork later (and possibly put up some MP3s) but for now, all you need to know is: “It’s My Party,” “These Boots are Made for Walking,” and “The Wanderer,” covered by what sounds like a wedding band. In Swedish.

February 4th, 2005 correction: Not Swedish. Norwegian. I have been corrected and sit humbly.

Oh. And “Always Something There to Remind Me.” (Det Vil Alltid Komma En Ifra Mengshoel)
