day one

The first day being cheese-free was not difficult. Having just returned from vacation, there was no food in the house and it wasn’t much of a step to not buy cheese when I went grocery shopping. To pre-empt what I’ve heard can be very intense cheese cravings (think Trainspotting but in the kitchen, not the bathroom), I bought fresh salsa for my chips and made a bean dip that is creamy and delicious. I mixed:

1 can white kidney beans, drained
half an onion, chopped
several cloves of garlic
2 hot chili peppers
lime juice
dill, cayenne, salt
fresh cilantro

then blend them with whatever means you happen to own. I own a hand blender. It worked fine.

For cheese-product-free snacking, Snyder’s of Hanover Sourdough pretzel pieces, flavoured with honey mustard and onion are flippin’ fantastic!! Do not buy the cheddar cheese flavoured ones. That is cheating, even if you grind them up and snort them.
