I don’t know why this makes me giggle so, but it does:
“Contoured top specially designed for a woman’s underarm.”
Maybe it’s the thought of a scientist or an engineer, having earned a degree in science or engineering, sitting in a lab, surrounded by beakers, designing the top of a deodorant and measuring it against the underarm of a mannequin.
Or maybe it’s just the word “underarm,” which, a lot like “underwear,” is an inherently funny word. Well, to me.
Anyway. From Gillette, home of the DermaStripe ™ and the pink (for girls!) and black (for Strong!) packaging, we also have:
“Soft & Dri DermaStripe will help keep women’s skin soft and prevent dry skin, while offering all-day protection against wetness and odor,†said Todd Brisky, Director Personal Care, The Gillette Company. “In addition, our new packaging will stand apart from competitive products, and our new advertising campaign will speak directly to the confidence and boldness of today’s young women.â€
Ah, Todd Brisky. Could you have asked for a better name?
The new DermaStripe product is available in two fragrances, Whisper and Cotton. Soft & Dri PowerStripe is available in three fragrances – Passion Flower, Kissed Peach and Citrus Squeeze. Soft & Dri DriGel with Microbeads and Soft & Dri DriGel are available in Citrus Squeeze and Kissed Peach. Original Soft & Dri Invisible Solid is available in classic Baby Powder.
What does a whisper smell like? I guess it depends on the person who is whispering. That means my whisper-scented armpit could smell like anything: tuna, garlic, cheese bread, beer, cigarettes, halitosis. Maybe there should be mouthwash flavoured pit-stick.
And Kissed Peach! I have seen the ads for the fruit-pit-stick on the Skytrain and they confound me. (there is also Melon scent) Every day I think: if you want your armpits to smell like fruit, eat fruit. Eat fruit anyway, it’s good for you AND that way your whisper will smell like fruit, too.
