{"id":511,"date":"2013-08-15T02:16:53","date_gmt":"2013-08-15T02:16:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/torturedpotato.com\/the_comeback\/?p=511"},"modified":"2013-08-15T02:18:30","modified_gmt":"2013-08-15T02:18:30","slug":"sixty-six-a-rough-and-tumble-alcoholic-with-a-heart-of-gold-thats-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/torturedpotato.com\/the_comeback\/?p=511","title":{"rendered":"Sixty-Six &#8212; A Rough and Tumble Alcoholic with A Heart of Gold, That&#8217;s Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ginger* asks: <a href=\"http:\/\/rambleramble.com\/2013\/08\/11\/bring-back-the-words-prompts-link-up-week-9\/\"> If you could be a TV character in real life, who would you be?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>My first thought was Dominic DaVinci from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davincisinquest.com\/index_dvi.php\"> DaVinci&#8217;s Inquest.<\/a> I couldn&#8217;t quite figure out why, so I thought about some other characters, among them <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0078644\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1\"> The Littlest Hobo,<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0926165\/\"> Amber from Parenthood,<\/a> and Mrs. Roper from Three&#8217;s Company, but I&#8217;m going to stick with my first thought. They say your first thought is your best thought.<\/p>\n<p>DaVinci&#8217;s Inquest was a Canadian drama that I loved for several years (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0156442\/?ref_=sr_2\"> imdb says 1998 &#8211; 2005 and I believe them<\/a>). I don&#8217;t know if any Americans have ever seen it. The character of Dominic DaVinci, a coroner in Vancouver, investigated deaths in the city and uncovered compelling stories about the dead people, along with their causes of death. Often there was a mystery, but not always. It followed a lot of real-life storylines like the tragedy of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BC_Missing_Women_Investigation\"> missing and murdered women<\/a> here in BC, (except I think <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davincisinquest.com\/episodes_dvi.php?season=1&#038;episodeNumber=1\"> in the show,<\/a> the murders were solved faster than in real life.) DaVinci was a recovering alcoholic, a divorced father of one teenage girl, and he had this manner about him; it was love and realism and hubris in one grizzled, grey, Italian-Canadian package. He was smart and sarcastic and compassionate and flawed. The show was incredibly well-written.<\/p>\n<p>He brooked no bullshit.
