He’s tall and neat
\nwell, taller than me
\nand he only takes four point five
\nseconds to pee.
\nI used to sit in pubs and when
\nhe went to the loo I’d grab my pen
\nI’d barely have time to scribble a note –
\nthe bastard would be back again!<\/p>\n
He didn’t want kids but I changed his mind
\nusing cunning, logic, and turpentine
\n– don’t ask don’t tell, that’s what I say –
\nnow that they’re here, he loves them way -oh- way
\nmore than a lot of people love their kids
\nhe distracts them when they get the fits
\nhe reads them stories for hours on end
\nhe’s a fabulous father, my best friend.<\/p>\n
He gets to ride the bus every day
\nand he listens to podcasts on his way.
\nHe makes computers run like stink,
\nhe also makes beer that we can drink
\nwhich is handy because we can’t afford to buy it
\ngiven my habit of bonbons and Hyatts.<\/p>\n
Thirty-nine years ago he was born,
\ngrew up and traveled West. I’d sworn
\nnever to marry or even to date
\nboys from Ontario, with their toque-covered pates.
\nIt took a while, but he changed my mind
\nusing cunning, logic and turpentine.<\/p>\n
I’ve been staring at his face for sixteen years;
\nhis glasses, his nose, his variations on beards,
\nhis face is pretty cool but his brain is the best, I mean
\nhe’s got stuff crammed in there I’ve *still* not seen.<\/p>\n
