My mom was telling me the other day about a documentary she watched about Hippopotamuses. I wanted to find out if it was true that they are classified with whales and are referred to as “pods.” (not that my mom is a liar – mostly) It is not. They run in herds, as you might expect, being nicknamed “Horses of the river.”

The part about the dominant male in the herd and his challenger flinging their dung at each other in a sort of “shake your tail feather” battle is true. In honour of this, and in honour of November 1st, the first day of my favourite month, a lovely picture for you. It came from this Hippo Page.

Maybe I would have finished my BA in 4 years instead of 6 if the space in my brain which contains a Tone Loc (or is it an A Flock of Seagulls ?)

Then again, maybe I would never have finished my BA if Tone Loc hadn’t been there to guide me.

We already know that the Newfoundland is the best dog. Today I learned (or maybe re-learned – certainly was re-minded) that the Newfoundland Dog has webbed feet!! No wonder I feel a kinship with the great monsterous beasts! Newfoundland RULES!
They swim, rescue you, lick your face, get you a sandwich and keep your feet warm. The only thing better than a duck is a dog.

In other news, the Cocos (Keeling) Islands have officially edged out the Seychelles for top dreamy tropical place to find my site. Cocos is at 7 hits, Seychelles at 5. First one to invite me to visit gets a free bag of barbeque chips.
