From my experience, all two children families are made up of one yin and one yang. I think the second comes along and sees that the first guy has his niche filled and has to work out another niche. And siblings fight. They just do. Some day, they will move away from home and realize that the only other person who shares their memories from their point of view is the sibling. Then that other becomes a precious piece of thier lives. That too happens. But not at a time when you benefit much except when they come home for Christmas.

Funny how we end up with one of each. I think it's us, actually. I think that we worry so much about the first that they take on our neurosis... and pledge to worry less about the second so they become SO much more mellow/fun/worry free?... who knows. All I know is that we have amazing kids - regardless of their (our?) foibles. I also know that it is near impossible to NOT compare them. I take comfort in their differences... and feel sorry for the one that's inherited my worst(?) personality traits.

Once I pushed my little brother down the front steps because he was pissing me off. Yeah, the little brother who was sickly. The one they thought was going to die at several points before he was two. And I pushed him down the stairs. He was about five.

Here is my hope for your children: That neither one of them pushes the other down the stairs. Because, holy God, will there be trouble!
